Architect Isaac G. Perry is introduced to Dr. Turner and plans for the asylum are developed.

The institution is renamed "The New York State Inebriate Asylum". It is to be the first of a generation of public hospitals in the United States committed exclusively to the medical treatment of alcoholism.
1858
J. Edward Turner canvasses New York State selling $10 subsciptions for capital stock in the New York State Inebriate Asylum.
