When a patient died on the wards they were washed and wrapped in a sheet and the body was taken to the morgue. After the autopsy the patient was dressed for burial with a black shroud that tied behind the neck. Male patients had a bow tie attached to the shroud.

A casket was brought from Barn 6 and the body was placed in it. They would take it to the cemetery and the back hoe operator would be there with the hole dug. Before we could close the grave the water would be flowing in so fast the casket would start to float.

After burying the casket a number was placed on the grave site.

I never knew of anyone attending these burials.
